The Works is a “hands-on, minds-on” museum that makes learning about science and engineering interesting, understandable and fun. A non-profit community organization, The Works creates successful, inspiring, hands-on learning experiences for kids. Our unique exhibits and educational programs demystify science and engineering, and inspire interest and confidence in learning. The Works has provided kid-friendly STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs since 1995.The Works uses participatory exhibits to teach about science and technology because of their broad appeal and proven effectiveness. Learning by doing is inviting, exciting and it works: people learn more and remember more. Successful, hands-on experiences exploring engineering can have a major influence on a person's attitude and confidence in learning.
The Works is designed for the general public, especially young people ages 5 to 15. The Works has also made a commitment to attracting and serving people from groups that are underrepresented in technical professions: people of color, women and girls. A diverse mix of school groups, scout troops, youth care centers, community organizations, individuals and families explores science and engineering at The Works.
The Works is operated by a small professional staff and a corps of talented and dedicated volunteers. The Works is a not-for-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization funded by gallery admissions, program fees and generous contributions from foundations, individuals and corporations.
