Homeschool Days at The Works

Hands-on engineering fun!  Explore the museum and enjoy a different activity each month in the company of other homeschool families.  For further hands-on exploration, consider adding our Design Lab, a place for families to work together to design, create, and engineer.

Come any time between 10 am and 4 pm. The activity will be ongoing at intervals determined by the length of the activity. The length of the activity ranges from 30 to 45 minutes. The first activity will begin at 10:30am.

Costs

Exhibits:  $6.00 per person for ages 3 & up.  Free to members of The Works.
+ Design Lab:  $2.00 per person for ages 3 & up.  Free to members of The Works.
+ Activity:  $3.00 per child, other discounts and coupons do not apply.
No pre-registration required.

Ages: The activity is designed for parents and children ages 5 to 12.  Younger siblings are always welcome to come for the museum exploration.  A parent must be present during classroom activity.

Homeschool Days Schedule

January 23, 2012  -  Monday

First homeschool event at the new site!  Come visit the new location, check out our visiting exhibit, Toys: The Inside Story, and create in our new Design Lab.  Design Lab features:  Hovercrafts, Straw Rockets, and Circuit Play. *Special for this day only, the Design Lab will be staffed by an educator - No additional class charge beyond admission and Design Lab.*

Float Your Boat  Put your creativity to work in this fun, floating design challenge.  Using various materials, construct a boat that floats and test how much weight your boat can hold before it sinks.

Pasta Bridges  Be a civil engineer and make a bridge using raw pasta, hot glue, and your imagination and see how much weight your bridge can hold before it breaks.

  • Visit The Works during regular public hours
  • Schedule a group visit or workshop for your homeschool group or cooperative of 15 or more children.  We are happy to customize a group visit for a wider age range, special learning styles or curriculum preferences.
  • Schedule a custom series of classes based on the summer camp curricula for your homeschool group (of 8 or more) during the school year.
