Boy Scout Options

Come visit The Works with your den, pack, patrol or troop for an educational field trip that is fun for the boys and easy on the grown-ups.  Several special programs for your pack or den fulfill badge requirements and are available during the day, after school or on Saturdays.   Call (952) 848-4848 to schedule your visit to The Works.

Scouts are also welcome to come to The Works during open hours (Thursday - Friday 10-8; Saturday - Monday 10-5) to enjoy the museum and family activities.  If you are bringing more than 8 scouts on a Saturday, we'd appreciate if you'd call ahead:  (952) 888-4262.  Admission is $6/person for the museum and $8/person for the museum and Design Lab.

Museum Visit:

A friendly Explainer accompanies your group as you explore all the "hands-on, minds-on" exhibits at The Works.  There's lots of time for individual discovery.  Midway through your visit, the Explainer leads an informal "Tech Talk" to explain how the exhibits work, answer questions and point out real world applications.

Super Circuits (1 hour) Grades 1-5:

Investigate the components of simple circuits — power, loads and switches —  and wire up some circuits of your own. Then roll up your sleeves for an awesome project: each scout will build and take home a motor-powered fan.

Steady Hand Game (1 hour) Grades 3-5:

Wire up series and parallel circuits, then create your own "steady hand" circuit game to challenge your friends.

Catapults (2 hours) Grades 3-9:

Learn about levers, pivots and mechanical advantage in this action packed workshop.  Use real tools -- hammers, drills and saws -- to build your own wooden catapult.  Optimize it for height and distance, find out how far and how accurately you can fling a marshmallow, then take your catapult home for more experimentation and fun.  Note:  fulfills part of the Webelos Engineer badge.
