Our open-format Experience Gallery is designed for young engineers to explore at their own pace with hands-on activities. Kids can build with K’Nex, test out a giant kaleidoscope, design sturdy structures, and so much more!

WHAT’S NEW AT THE WORKS

The House

In our exhibit, The House, visitors will explore the engineering that goes into the houses and apartments we live in, such as: plumbing, siding, electrical engineering, and tiling.

With The House, we’re excited to highlight some of the many career paths open to kids interested in STEM, including trades and university degrees, while they explore the engineering behind things they interact with every day!

K’nex Ball Machine

Our new K’nex Ball Machine is finally here!

Carry A Load

Developed in collaboration with partners from local Dakota, Ojibwe, Hmong, Mexican, and Somali communities, these activities are designed to introduce children to some of the unique ways that each culture engineers.

Brick Pixel Pics.

Brick Pixel Pics lets brick lovers create 2-D art in three innovative ways. Follow a grid and complete a section of a large scale, community-built work of art. Or, create your own freestyle pixel pic on our giant brick-base wall. And finally, snap together a smaller scale image that can be displayed on our gallery wall. There are so many ways to interact with this new experience.

Table Top Activities

Explore structures, design, coding, and more with our selection of tabletop engineering activities.* You may recognize some of these toys and materials – and that’s intentional. By using familiar materials in new ways, kids discover that anyone can engineer using the things around them.
