A Fun and Easy Winter Birthday Party Idea for Twin Cities Families

Hey Twin Cities Families!

Winter in Minnesota means cold weather, busy calendars, and plenty of time spent looking for ways to keep kids entertained indoors. Add a birthday to the mix, and finding a celebration that is fun for kids and easy for parents can feel like a chore.

This winter, consider celebrating at The Works Museum in Bloomington, just a 9 minute drive from the Mall of America. Birthday parties at the museum give kids ages 4–12 the chance to explore, build, experiment, and create, all in one warm, indoor space and private party room. Our interactive exhibits and optional hands-on engineering activities guarantee a birthday experience that’s engaging for kids and easy for grown-ups.

Engineer Your Own Party Favors

One unique feature of birthday parties at The Works Museum is that guests can make an engineering project to take home. Depending on the birthday child’s age, projects include mini-catapults, sail cars, kaleidoscopes, or foam gliders.

Museum staff guide the projects, giving kids the chance to ask questions, experiment, and create something they can be proud of. Instead of a traditional party favor that might end up forgotten in a drawer, kids leave with something they designed and built themselves.

An Indoor Party That’s Easy for Parents, Too

Winter birthday parties can come with enough logistics already. The Works Museum helps take some of the work off your plate.

There’s free parking, an easy-to-supervise open floor plan, and a private classroom where your group can enjoy treats and presents. Museum staff handle the set-up, supplies, and clean-up, so you can focus on celebrating with your child and their friends.

Just bring the kids, the cake or treats, and your party spirit. We’ll handle the rest!

Choose the Party That Fits Your Schedule

The Works Museum offers two birthday party packages, making it easy to find an option that works with your family’s winter schedule:

  • The two-hour party ($285 for up to 10 children) includes exhibit time, a private party room, and a make-and-take engineering project.

  • Prefer something shorter? The 90-minute party ($255 for up to 10 children) includes one hour of exhibit exploration followed by 30 minutes in a private party room.

Additional children can be added for a small fee, and adults are always welcome at no cost.

Make Your Next Winter Birthday a Little Easier

Between school, activities, holidays, and Minnesota weather, winter calendars fill up quickly. A birthday party at The Works Museum gives kids an opportunity to have fun, get creative, and engineer something of their own, while giving parents a warm, convenient, and low-stress place to celebrate.

Here's What Parents are Saying:

"This was the easiest experience for myself as a planning parent. I will recommend this to everyone, but especially parents with kids who have birthdays at busy times of the year."

"The activity was great, and the kids loved playing in the museum. I loved that the museum is contained enough that it is easy to monitor the group. The staff were wonderful and very helpful."

"The party accommodated ALL ages! We appreciate being able to bring in our own waffle maker, coffee maker and toaster. Thank you! I really liked the person running the activity for the kids. She did a fantastic job!"
