Summer Camps: Educator Picks

Make it Cool With Tools! Pre K Camp

We are getting excited for another summer of camps at The Works Museum! Let’s hear from some of our educators about the camps they love most.

Educator Sonia’s favorite camp is one of our PreK camps called Make it Superpowered! Sonia loves Make it Superpowered because campers get so excited about having superpowers.

She says, “It’s fun to learn about how simple machines do the work for us so tough tasks aren’t so tough on our bodies. As campers explore levers, pulleys, and inclined planes, they learn how engineers include these super simple machines to power super helpful devices!”

Campers create all sorts of super stories to go with super-powered machines they build and take home. Register now for Make it Superpowered to unlock your camper(s) engineering superpowers this summer!

Another PreK camp that our educators are excited about this summer is Make it Cool With Tools! Educator Cal loves teaching this camp because it sparks so much joy in young campers as they learn how to use basic tools safely and independently. Campers get to explore drilling, hammering, hole-punching, and more cool tools during Make it Cool With Tools.

Educator Will’s favorite camps are our LEGO camps, one of them being LEGO Engineering.

Here is a message from Will: “I think LEGO is one of the best ways to get kids to think about engineering through play. In this camp they are given various engineering challenges and builds, and they are given the freedom to try things their own way. This year is extra special. I have been teaching LEGO Engineering for 10 years and I’m so excited to say that we have developed a NEW challenge that allows students to take home something they created using LEGO. Campers this year will learn about lithographs, wood block printing, and design and build LEGO Printing Blocks. Campers will use ink and rollers to create one of a kind designs they get to take home as cards, art prints, and souvenirs of their time at camp. So sign your kids up, and they can bring home their very own LEGO Block Prints!”

One of Educator Melanie’s favorite camps is Architecture: Houses. Melanie likes Architecture: Houses because of the creativity and learning that it leads to.

She says, “I really love teaching this camp because it features a lot of real world architectural and carpentry techniques (but in a miniature way, which is more fun)!” Campers are always so excited to put a working ceiling fan or doorbell on it and it transforms the house into something that is more than just a model.

Fling and Fly is an exciting camp about all things that fly! Fling and Fly is Educator Richard’s favorite camp because each day is filled with fun, fast-moving take home activities. Campers make several engineering projects such as CD hovercrafts, catapults, battle shields, ping pong launchers, and more.
