Volunteers Share Identi-beads

Recently, we welcomed a wonderful group of engineering interns from Boston Scientific to the museum to volunteer in our summer camps and help with material prep projects. These volunteers brought incredible energy to every task they took on. We are so grateful.

Two of the volunteers had even visited The Works Museum as kids! We love seeing the journey come full circle when former young engineers return as adults to inspire the next generation.

Reflecting on their own engineering journeys, the volunteers shared with campers which "identi-bead," or engineering skill, is most needed in their current roles at Boston Scientific. Campers loved hearing their stories!

Here is what they shared:

Orange - Trier: “I think the identity that I use the most is the orange, the trier, because although I did study engineering, it is still very hard, and every day I'm trying something new.”

Yellow - Helper: “You guys are making elevators, which helps people go up and down, right? The devices we make are for your body, so they make your heart beat, and make your lungs breathe.”

Red - Persister: “I think for me, one of the most important beads for engineers is the red one - persisting… Instead of giving up, I think it's not an easy thing, but it's really nice to see when people are persistent in that way.”

Brown - Calmer: “It's my first year at this company, so everything's very, very new. And sometimes I get frustrated really, really, really fast. But the best thing to do when you get frustrated is to slow down, breathe, and be calm. And usually the solution comes with time.”
